This January the Big Fun Festival will celebrate its 3rd annual music festival to be held in multiple venues throughout downtown Winnipeg. Using Winnipeg’s prairie winter as the backdrop, the festival will showcase the best of Manitoba’s current and upcoming artists as well as some hand picked acts from across Canada. The Big Fun Festival wants to give the people of Winnipeg a reprieve to the brutal winter by organizing a unique and exciting weekend of events in the bitterly cold stretch of our darkest month.
The goal of the Big Fun Festival is to present multiple genres of music over the course of a five day festival. The majority of the artists are based out of Manitoba, with the exception of a few from across Canada. Manitoba maintains a reputation for having a rich artistic community as well as a bitter winter. The Big Fun Festival brings these two elements of our Province together to create an annual festival our city can be proud of.
The festival will run from Wednesday evening to Sunday afternoon. There will be one kick-off show Wednesday and a variety of events taking place throughout the rest of the weekend in close proximity to each other so that festivalgoers can travel between the shows. The festival wraps up with a roots/ folk pancake breakfast on Sunday. Each show will be in a different venue in Winnipeg’s downtown. Shows on the same evening will be staggered, and have been deliberately paired, as they are distinct in sound and delivery.
Big Fun Productions is comprised of Winnipeg musicians and music lovers who are passionate about their city. Inspired by the layout of Pop Montreal and NXNE, Big Fun aims to create the same excitement within the music and art community in Winnipeg, by hosting several events throughout the year.
